Home and Garden

The seller has lovingly maintained and customized this special property for many years. Here are some updates and property features she’d like to share with the next owner.

Architect Alan Grainger, Principal of GGLO (Seattle) designed the four homes (Hazelwood Addition) in 1980 to integrate seamlessly with the adjacent natural area and Arboretum, creating minimal impact on native vegetation and the spring fed stream flowing next to the path below the properties.

The home was remodeled in 2011 to create a more open floor plan and to enhance the natural light and territorial views with original wood window framing preserved throughout. The home was updated with new beechwood floors with a European Cosmo finish, new kitchen with stainless steel refrigerator, European oven and range, and new butcher-block island and counters. Exposed beams were revealed and installed throughout. New interior and exterior staircases were installed.  Two new bathrooms were installed with Moroccan style tile and black beach pebble floors. Enjoy gazing out from both bathrooms at the bamboo and forest while showering in total privacy.

In 2017, new wrap around wide planked decks with improved supporting structure were installed and in 2020 a new garage door will be installed.

Fully Sustainable Rain Garden

The entire 6000 sf property has been carefully designed to provide a
lush, natural, and private retreat, capturing the winter rain and providing green all year round.

The selection of well established drought hardy plants thrive in both the rainy season and the drier summer months. During extended hot weather the plants appreciate an occasional shower, but an irrigation system is not required. Gravel paths guide rainwater to naturally filter through the garden into the extensively amended rich soil and plantings.  No pesticides or herbicides have been used on the property since it was purchased in 1983.

Plant Selections
Bamboo, native sword ferns, New Zealand flax, Chinese and Mediterranean fan palms, turf lily, black mondo grass, rushes, New Zealand feather grass, day lily, Siberian iris, and hardy banana (leaves great for wraps for bbq and tamales!) and a dramatic big leaf surprise plant (tetrapanex).

Vegetable Garden
There are two large steel stock planters located in prime sunny spots in the front and back of the property for your tomatoes and favorite vegetables and herbs.
