It’s Seattle’s iconic summer festival. Covering a ten-week span, Seafair brings an entire community together in celebration. For over 67 years Seafair has been about community events, parades, the Scholarship Program for Women, the Navy and Coast Guard, amateur athletics, airplanes and of course, boat racing. But most of all, Seafair has been about people and it continues to be.
From the 2,500 volunteers who are the heartbeat of the festival who work year-round in the planning phases, to the triathlon participants who train just as long. It’s about drill teams who practice for hours each week to synchronize their movements, hydroplane crews that fine tune helicopter turbine engines to perfection, the Pirates and Clowns that visit hospitals and convalescent centers in the “off-season” and marching bands that rehearse songs and steps for weeks in preparation of their performances in neighborhoods and through the streets of downtown. Behind the scenes is a dedicated 40-member board of directors, a talented year-round staff of ten and a dozen seasonal staff and summer interns that bring it all together.
Seafair is for everyone. As a recent local newspaper column stated, it’s a part of what makes up a “Quintessential Northwesterner”. Come and be a part of one of the happenings that makes the Puget Sound area an ideal place to live.Click for Events Click for Road Closures
